 The North San­tiam Water­shed Coun­cil will be the show­ing the film “UPRIVER” this Thurs­day, April 13, 2017  start­ing at  6:10 pm at the Stay­ton Com­mu­nity Center.

UPRIVER is a ‘water­shed film’ that explores one of the Nation’s most active river con­ser­va­tion move­ments. Within Oregon’s Willamette River sys­tem, the film focuses on peo­ple from all walks of life who are com­ing together to revive the health of this large river and the life it sup­ports.
The film gives audi­ences a vivid immer­sion into the waters of this river sys­tem and the life it sup­ports, and cel­e­brates the Ore­gon way of water­shed restoration.

Pro­duced by Fresh­wa­ters Illus­trated. Dura­tion: 60 minutes.

Mill Creek Work­shop

Do you live near Mill Creek? If you are a rural landowner or an agri­cul­tural oper­a­tor, you are invited to an infor­ma­tional pre­sen­ta­tion regard­ing water and land issues along Mill Creek.

Water qual­ity affects every prop­erty owner in the Mill Creek area.  Learn about well water issues from OSU Spe­cial­ist Chrissy Lucas. For a free nitrate screen­ing, bring ½ cup of untreated well water in a clean, water-tight con­tainer. DEQ will pro­vide ground­wa­ter information.

OSU Asst. Pro­fes­sor Javier Fernandez-Salvador will present sug­ges­tions on how to man­age mud and manure.  Learn more about buffer strips, gut­ter­ing, com­post­ing and improve­ments to ani­mal health.

Rebecca McCoun of the North San­tiam Water­shed Coun­cil will be shar­ing suc­cess sto­ries and ideas for stream side restora­tion.  Learn how to decrease soil ero­sion and sta­bi­lize stream banks.

Mered­ith Hoff­man, Mar­ion SWCD, will help with cost share/ incen­tive pro­grams for water qual­ity and prop­erty improve­ment that also ben­e­fit Mill Creek.

Local experts will speak with you about inva­sive plants, sur­face and ground­wa­ter issues, and con­ser­va­tion pro­grams for small acreage landowners.

Join us April 19, 2017 from 4–6 pm at the Stay­ton Com­mu­nity Cen­ter, 400 W. Vir­ginia Street in Stay­ton, Ore­gon.  There will be snacks, free­bies and door prizes!
